Presenting International Studies as a wide, plural and inherently interdisciplinary field of research, this book shows its links with philosophy, peace research, history, geography, globalization studies, international political economy, political psychology, sociology and social theory, linguistics, strategicor war studies and anthropology. PAMI AALTO is Jean Monnet Professor in the School of Management, and Director of the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence at the University of Tampere, Finland. He has worked on the interface of IR, political geography, psychology and sociology; and in interdisciplinary fields such as energy research, European studies and post-Soviet studies. VILHO HARLE is Professor of International Relations at the University of Tampere, Finland. He specializes in political and international theory and history of ideas, peace and conflict studiesand conflict resolution, and political geography. His publications include 'Ideas of Social Order in the Ancient World' and 'The Enemy with a Thousand Faces'. SAMI MOISIO is Professor of Geography at the University of Oulu, Finland. He works on the interface between geography and political science and has written extensively on issues of political geography, European integration and state transformation.
