Dioxiranes have become one of most useful oxidants for organic synthesis through the efforts of many research groups around the globe. After two comprehensive reviews on the dioxirane oxidations appeared in Organic Reactions, numerous new reports on the use of this oxidant have been published, especially chiral dioxiranes for asymmetric epoxidations. In view of these encouraging developments, the editors of Organic Reactions have decided to join the two reviews and publish a composite monograph on dioxirane oxidations as a definitive treatise of this valuable subject. To offer the reader convenient access to the available literature that appeared subsequent to the reviews, previous coverage has been updated with a list recent references on the new developments in dioxirane oxidations. The list of supplemental references covers the new work up toand including June 2008, acquired by a thorough literature survey with SciFinder Scholar. The comprehensive literature survey includes papers published in languages other than English and computational studies. The supplemental references are arranged in the order of the compilations given in the Tabular Surveys of the two Organic Reactions chapters. Additionally, a list of recent reviews is featured at the front of the monograph, to give the reader an overview of the extent and diversity of the dioxirane literature. The supplemental references are separately numbered for the two chapters and the numbering continuesthat of the previous Organic Reactions chapters. Unlike the Organic Reactionschapters, the supplemental references under each table are arranged alphabetically according to the authors names (last name first, followed by the initials). In the case of identical author names, the alphabetical order follows the priority sequence: journal name, publication year, and page number. When multiple oxidation types are reported in the same paper (for example, epoxidation and C-H oxidation), this reference is be repeated in each of the corresponding tables.
