Ethiopian Geoheritage and Geosceneries

Ethiopia hosts some of the most significant environmental and cultural reserves on Earth, strewn with unique and significant natural geological and archaeological monuments. In this book the authors describe the major geological heritage sites and geosceneries in Ethiopia, as for example the still active Great Ethiopian Rift Valley which encompasses many of the national parks and wild life sanctuaries; the chain of rift valley lakes; the unique Afar rift with the famous volcano Erta’ale where active volcanic activities and the formation of new oceanic crust can be witnessed; and the Sof-Omar cave.
Most popular tourist sites in Ethiopia have actually been geologically formed and are good examples of the fact that geology often controls the formation of tourist sites around the world.
