Child-centered play therapy research: the evidence base for effective practice

Research must support the efficacy of play therapy in order to justify therapists' use of it to insurance companies, courts, school districts, and parents.Indeed, the Association for Play Therapy has made play therapy research a toppriority. Ray, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Counseling and Higher Education and Director of the Child and Family Resource Clinic at the University of North Texas in Denton. Dr. Sue Bratton, Ph.D., LPC, RPT-S, is the Director of the Center for Play Therapy, Associate Professor of Counselor Education, and the former Clinical Director of the Counseling Department at the University of North Texas in Denton. She has served on the Association for Play Therapys Board of Directors for 4 years and is currently serving onthe Executive Board as Immediate Past President.
