This volume presents several areas of modern science and technology where physical inorganic chemistry has provided a major contribution. Some of the most complex reactions and processes that are currently at the forefront of scientific endeavor rely heavily on physical inorganic chemistry in search for solutions and new directions. Examples include solar energy harvesting and utilization, hydrogen energy, biorenewables, catalysis, environment, atmosphere, and human health. The specific topics include electron transfer, hydrogen atom and proton-coupled electron transfer, oxygen atom transfer, ligand substitution at metal centers, inorganic and organometallic radicals, and activation of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen monoxide. The latest developments in carbon-hydrogen bond activation and in solar photochemistry are also presented.Andreja Bakac received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Zagreb in 1976 and has been an Adjunct Professor in the Chemistry Department at Iowa State University since 2005. Among her many research interests are kinetics and mechanisms of inorganic and organometallic reactions, catalytic oxidation with molecular oxygen, and activation of dioxygen by transition metal complexes.
