This volume compiles the results of long-term observations of site propertiesand ecosystem processes for three beech forests. Representing a spectrum of common beech forest sites in Central Europe, they receive similar atmospheric inputs and are growing under similar climatic conditions, but differ in their soil acidity and nutrient cycling processes. Significant differences were observed in their growth patterns, biodiversity, faunal and microbial activities, greenhouse gas emissions and a number of other soil and plant related processes. These differences will have various implications for the future management of these and similar beech sites. This book is of special interest to professionals, scientists and students working on ecosystems processes. Presents futureperspectives for forest development and forest management INDICE: From the contents This volume consists of 24 chapters and is divided into the following Parts: Part A Description of Long-term Observation Sites.- Part B Ecosystem Processes.- Part C Forest Management and Regional Scale Issues Concerning C and N.- Part D Synthesis.
