The World Psychiatric Association has been instrumental in bringing mental health issues to the world stage and disseminating knowledge to mental health professionals in every part of the globe. This book features international experts addressing womens mental health and psychiatric disorders from a global andmulticultural perspective. It describes current knowledge regarding mental health and psychiatric disorders in women, in a manner that is relevant to clinical practice and keeps cultural realities in perspective. This book will be particularly important in the face of rapidly changing conditions (including better education, more working women) and challenges such as migration, war and violence and their impact on the clinical profile of psychiatric disorders among women. While womens mental health and psychiatric disorders cannot be divorced from social and cultural realities, the book gives due importance to recentadvances in the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders among women. The book has five sections: current themes in psychiatric disorders among women; reproduction and mental health; service delivery and ethics; impact of violence, disasters and migration; and womens mental health promotion and social policy. Each section concludes with a commentary from one of the Editors, discussing important themes emerging from each chapter. The book features an excellent foreword by Sir Michael Marmot, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London and Chair of the WHO Commission on Social Determinants ofHealth.
