The book is a collection of the lectures delivered during the 7th International Summer School on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ISSAOS) titled “Integrated Ground-Based Observing Systems Applications for Climate, Meteorology, and Civil Protection”. Its aim is to contribute to the scientific understanding of basic concepts and applications of integrated ground-based observing systems. The first part describes the most common instrumentations showing their strengths and limitations. Furthermore, strategic plans for the deployment of an observation site are discussed along with an overview of techniques for integrating heterogeneous data. The second part introduces cutting-edge applications, including assimilation in numerical weather prediction, climate benchmarking, air quality monitoring and meteo/hydrological warnings. A review of state-of-the-art instruments and applications for integrated ground-based observing systems INDICE: CHAPTER I: Basic Instrumentation and Integration Techniques I.1 Passive radiometric systems (D. Cimini and E. R. Westwater.) I.2 RADAR systems (M. Montopoli and F. S. Marzano) I.3 LIDAR and Ceilometer systems (V. Rizi) I.4SODAR and RASS-Wind Profiler Radar Systems (L. Bianco) I.5 Integration of Measurements and Methods (D. Cimini) CHAPTER II: Applications III.1 Observations of microphysical cloud properties with ground-based remote sensing instruments(H. Russchenberg) III.2 Understanding aviation meteorology and weather hazards with ground-based observations (C. Pagé) III.3 Ground-based observing sites for atmospheric chemistry and composition (S. De Cesari) III.4 Applications tovolcanic risks monitoring (F. Marzano) III.5 Integrated ground-based observation system for boundary layer observation (S. Argentini and I. Pietroni) III.6Use of ground-based remote sensors in air quality monitoring and prediction (J. Wilczak) III.7 Satellite data calibration/validation with ground-based observing systems (P.
