The focus of this book is on the new possibilities in material science openedup by the recent advances in inorganic polymerizations, better known as the sol-gel processes. This book discusses the state of the art in the synthesis ofthe various nanomaterials. In Chapters 1 and 2 of this book particular emphasis is placed on the potential development of new materials exhibiting specificphysical or chemical properties. After the introductory chapters, Chapters 3 to 5 cover an introduction to material chemistry, from nano-object to nanomaterial and nanostructured materials, respectively. Chapter 6 examines chemistry on the way to interactive nanomaterials including mesoporous materials and biological applications. The last chapter presents some potential developments ofthe chemistry of hybrids along with some present and future applications, emphasizing the interdisciplinary cooperation between chemists, physicists and biologists.
