He is the author ofTrue Citizens: Violence, Memory, and Identity in the Medieval Community of Perpignan, 11621397 (2000; French translation 2004). Philip Whalen is Associate Professor of History and Director of the Honors Program at Coastal Carolina University. His research interests are in tourism, gastronomy, and the vectors of identity formation in twentieth-century France. He is the author of Gaston Roupnel: âme paysanne et sciences humaines (2001) and is currently working on an ecological history of Burgundys Clos de Bèze vineyards.
