This selection contains the best poetry of the most prominent and classical Urdu poet of the seventeenth century, Vali (1667-1707). He is regarded as a first poet of Urdu language who compiled a Diwan (Collection of Ghazals). His full name was Vali-ullah. He belongs to the family of Gujrat's famous sufi saint Shah Wajeeh-ud-Din Guajarati. He loved travelling, so he travelled to Delhi which proved momentous, giving an impetus to Urdu as against Persian.
