The ancient Mediterranean basin was a multicultural region with a great diversity of linguistic, religious, social and ethnic groups. This study provides anew understanding of it by examining identity construction in multiethnic commercial settlements located throughout the region and explores literary, epigraphic and archaeological evidence to investigate cross-cultural interactions.
