Part I: Approach offers an introduction to the concepts of sustainability andhow they apply to landscape architecture. A common language is established inthis section of the book, and emphasis is placed on how ecological, social and cultural aspects of a site are designed to evolve and integrate with the natural site process and the changing needs, uses, and expectations of the peoplewho use a site. Part II: Process covers the critical phases of the design process (site analysis, program development and design development) while emphasizing sustainability throughout. This part also introduces land use typologies that lay the groundwork for the case studies presented in the final part of the book. Part III: Outcomes offers twenty case studies diverse in scale, scope,location and program. All case studies foster cultural engagement alongside ecological restoration and all case studies contain an aspect of experimentation.
