In early 2007 ASCE will be bringing to ballot the first edition of a new design standard for blast protection of buildings. It is expected that the standard will finish the balloting and revision process in mid-2007 for final publication in late 2007. The standard will provide quantitative thresholds and performance-based criteria to which architects and engineers can design their buildings for compliance. The standard will not be prescriptive and will not offer any suggestions concerning design. This new book by the Chair of the ASCE committee preparing the standard will be the only companion volume keyed to the standard and offering design guidelines and examples. It will instruct the reader on methods to design buildings that meet the criteria of the standard, as well as how to remain in compliance with the existing ASCE, ACI, AISC codes.
