Written by fifteen leading academics from the Japan Society for InternationalDevelopment (JASID), this book undertakes a review of Japan's economic development over the last 150 years, and seeks to clarify Japanese priorities in domestic and foreign policy for the coming decades. TOSHIHISA TOYODA is Professor of Economics at Hiroshima Shudo University and Professor Emeritus at Kobe University. He served to JASID as the President (2005-2008). His recent research interests include economic development in East Asia Region and policy issues of post-disaster recovery and revitalization. He has published numerous papers in international journals of economics. . JUN NISHIKAWA is Professor Emeritus at Waseda University, Tokyo. He served as President of JASID from 2008-2011. He specializes in development economics. He has published numerous works on the world economy, development and under-development, human well-being and deprivation, the notion of happiness in economics and post-development issues. . HIROSHI KAN SATO is the Dean of the Institute of Developing Economies Advanced School (IDEAS) and the President of JASID (2011-2014). He is a development sociologist and has published several books on social development and business development, including Fair Trade and BOP business. He has also conducted area studies, focusing on Yemen, on the social impact of development aid.
