The Handbook of Social Status Correlates summarizes 200 years of research on social status, organizing those studies by similar subject and then identifying for the reader in tabular form which studies showed positive, negative, or no outcomes in regard to being associated with the traits measured. Each table is followed by a conclusion indicating what the preponderance of evidence indicates. The most widely used measures of social status are years of education, occupational prestige, and income, although there are also several secondary measures. Tables also sort findings by countries, allowing an easy view to when cultural considerations may have had an impact on findings. When special subpopulations were sampled, racial or ethnic identifiers appear in parentheses immediately following the relevant citation.
