The environment is currently a matter of international public and academic concern, but is often considered separately from health issues. This book bringstogether work from environmental and health historians to conceptualise the connection between environment and health at different times and in different geographical locations. VIRGINIA BERRIDGE is Professor of History at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Director of the Centre for History in Public Health,UK. She has published widely on post 1945 health policy and on public health,focussing on drugs, alcohol and tobacco and on the relationship between evidence and policy. MARTIN GORSKY is Senior Lecturer in History at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. His research interests lie in the history of public health and health services. Among his current research projectsare studies of management of the National Health Service, and his most recentbook was a study of hospital contributory schemes.
