This is the first book to explore the relationship between experimental theatre and performance making in France. Reflecting the recent return to aesthetics and politics in French theory, it focuses on how a variety of theatre and performance practitioners use their art work to contest reality as it is currently configured in France. CLARE FINBURGH Lecturer in Modern Drama at the University of Essex, UK. She has co-edited Genet: Performance and Politics (with Carl Lavery, Palgrave, 2006), and published many articles on subjects from Jean Genet, to a range of contemporary French and Francophone theatre-makers including Valère Novarina, Noëlle Renaude and Kateb Yacine. CARL LAVERY Lecturer in Theatre and Performance at Aberystwyth University, UK. His most recent publication is The Politics of Jean Genet's Late Theatre: Spaces of Revolution (2010). He is currently co-editing (with David Williams) a book on Lone Twin.
