International Review of Cell and Molecular Biology, Volume 35 reviews and describes role of TAM receptors in health and diseases. The TAM (Tyro3, Axl and Mertk) tyrosine kinase receptor family consists of three homologous type I Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) expressed predominantly on immune and epithelial cells. The receptors functions as an inhibitory receptor to dampen inflammatory responses and maintain tissue homeostasis. This release describes in detail where does TAM receptors are expressed, how does they get activated, where do they play role in; one such example is, efferocytosis, the process of clearing dead cells. The individual articles in this series will provide an insight on TAM receptor biology in several clinical implications such as thrombosis, atherosclerosis, cancer, and viral infections. In addition, the chapters will describe current research strategies being used in the mentioned disease conditions by means of either blocking or activating each TAM receptors. Comprehensive collection of articles on relatively late evolved and highly conserved TAM receptor tyrosine kinase familyDescribes TAM receptor biology in great detailsInvited timely review articles authored by well-established TAM receptor biologist in the field INDICE: 1.
