Research on astronomical jets has largely been conducted within the domain ofastronomical observations and astrophysical modeling and numerical simulations. However, the recent advent of high-energy density facilities has added experimental control to jet studies. Testing models for jet launching and collimation requires a highly interdisciplinary approach and sophistication. Indeed, closing the circle between pure magnetohydrodynamics, thermo-chemical evolution, high angular resolution spectro-imaging and laboratory experiments is not trivial. This volume seeks to bridge these gaps by providing a series of lectures linking the foundations of the discipline. Lectures presented in this book address - studies of jets physics in the laboratory - the magnetohydrodynamic theory of stationary jets - what we learn from coronal heating in the sun and from shock heating in molecular material and chemistry applied to heating mechanisms in magnetohydrodynamic jets - the atomic perspective on the microphysicsof the shocked material in the jets. The book closes by presenting a series of diagnostics making it possible to derive basic physical quantities from jet emission lines. INDICE: Laboratory Astrophysics and Scaling.- Laboratory Studies of Astrophysical Jets.- Output From MHD models.- Coronal Heating.- Flows in Molecular Media.- The Ionisation and Excitation State of Stellar Outflows.- Deriving Physical Dyagnostics From Observations.
