Based on original empirical research, this book explores retributive and gender justice, the potentials and limits of agency, and the correlation of transitional justice and social change through case studies of current dynamics in post-violence countries such Rwanda, South Africa, Cambodia, East Timor, Columbia, Chile and Germany. SUSANNE BUCKLEY-ZISTEL is Professor for Peace and Conflict Studies at the Center for Conflict Studies, Philipps University Marburg, Germany. Her research interests include transitional justice, gender, post-structural theory and the nexus between peace and development assistance. RUTH STANLEY is Research Associate at the Center for Conflict Studies, Philipps University Marburg, Germany. Previously, she was Reader in Politics and Research Project Director at the Free University of Berlin, Germany. Her research interests include democratisation and human rights, peace and conflict research, security governance and gender issues.
