The objective of this text is to provide an authoritative and comprehensive resource for students and professionals involved in the planning, design, construction, and operation of modern CII power systems. To cover the material andmake this text as flexible as possible, the contents will be divided into about thirty chapters. Each chapter will build on previous chapters to provide the continuity needed for use in the classroom. However, the chapters will also be structured so that a design or construction professional wanting information on a particular aspect of CII power systems can go directly to the particular chapter addressing the subject of interest and get the needed information. There will be detailed examples throughout the text illustrating not only the "how" but also the "why" (using economics as technical considerations). End-of-the-chapter problems will provide the student or reader with a better understanding of the material presented in the chapter. These problems are very practical and are based on the author's engineering courses and thirty years ofindustry experience
