The original version of the book Casting Aluminium Alloys by V.S. Zolotorevsky, N.A. Belov, and M.V. Glazoff appeared in the fall of 2007 and was a summary of research conducted at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloy. This research covered areas of the structure, properties, thermal resistance, corrosion and fatigue of aluminium alloys in industrial manufacturing. With the publication of this new edition, more than 10 years have passed and during that time, new casting alloys have been invented/patented, novel casting technologies have appeared, and new methods of alloys design have emerged. This new edition includes information related to all of those new discoveries, as well as some of the most significant innovations, that being the implementation of computational technologies for the calculation of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of alloys; the development of software for calculation of diffusion processes in aluminum alloys; computational modelling of solidification microstructure and texture evolution of multi-component aluminum materials; and the development of the modelling tools for solving the principal problem of all structural materials - establishing quantitative microstructure - properties relationships allowing for developing optimized multi-step heat treatments, assessing the physical properties of materials in different phases, and computing the mechanical behaviour of materials as a function of the applied thermos-mechanical treatment. In addition to these changes in the computational predictive abilities, there is a review of novel casting aluminum alloy compositions and properties, as well as descriptions of new casting technologies, and updates to the coverage on mechanical properties of aluminum casting alloys. Adds a discussion of thermodynamic calculations used for assessing non-equilibrium solidifications of casting aluminium alloysExpands coverage of mathematical models for alloy mechanical properties which will lead to the facilitation of selection of the best prospective candidate for new alloy developmentContains a new section describing the self-consistent evaluation of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of aluminum alloys INDICE: 1. Phase Diagrams and Thermodynamic Properties of Al-Bearing Alloys 2. Non-Equilibrium Solidifications of Casting Aluminum Alloys 3. Structure of Casting Aluminum Alloys 4. Structure of Casting Aluminum Alloys after Heat Treatment(s) 5. Industrial and Perspective Casting Alloys
