This research-oriented book addresses the recent developments, using the novel tool of Extrinsic Information Transfer Charts (EXIT), which facilitate the design of transceivers operating arbitrarily close to the attainable system capacity. The proposed book casts almost all of its solutions in the optimum sphere-packing framework. It will contain a 100-page chapter on the unified treatment of all block codes in the context of high-flexibility, cutting-edge so-called irregular Linear Dispersion Codes (LDC), which approach the MIMO-capacity.There are currently no other books on EXIT. The main originality of this bookarises from its extensive treatment of techniques that are not addressed in existing books and it provides the reader with a comprehensive view of recent advances in the area of space-time coding. It looks at specific families of spacetime codes (eg, Linear Dispersion Codes) and examines the performance of particular schemes while also exploring the design of transceivers that will implement some of the techniques. Advanced Space-Time Coding consolidates a large body of knowledge in one place, which otherwise would have to be gleaned by reading a large number of technical papers in a range of different journals (ie,it is a one-stop-shop for someone who is interested in these specific areas). It is therefore essential reading for anyone who is working in this area.
