This book provides the reader with an overview of the known methods for developing and applying polymerization catalysts. The book deals with polymerization catalysts that afford commercially acceptable high yields of polymer with respect to catalyst mass (catalyst productivity). This book includes recent advances and historically important catalysts. Additionally, selective chapters serve as an informative guide to methods and reagents that are widely used in the field. For each category of catalysts, detailed synthetic procedures for preparing the catalysts utilized in polymerization reactions, along with their specific applications in synthesis are provided (from classical Ziegler-Natta tothe new developments in late transition metal catalysts). Valuable data is also provided to assist the reader in reproducing syntheses or utilizing the catalyst for new applications.Ray Hoff is a member of the adjunct faculty at Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, Illinois. He is a former research scientist and leader in polymerizationcatalysts for Westinghouse Research, B.F. Goodrich, and finally Quantum Chemical Corporation. He holds 27 US patents in the field of polymerization catalysts, and his silica-based catalyst inventions scaled up to manufacturing more than 100 million pounds of production in the US and the Netherlands. Robert Mathers is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Penn State University. He has written 18 scientific papers, made 10 conference presentations, and holds 1 patent. Dr. Mather leads a research program in polymer chemistry, utilizing renewable resources for homogeneous catalysis, and nanomaterials.
