LTE can access a very large global market- not only GSM/UMTS operators, but also some cdma operators and potentially fixed network service providers. The large potential market can attract large numbers of companies to the market place thus pushing the economies of scale that in turn enables wide scale LTE adoption with lower costs. This book will be one of the first books to market after the LTE L1 standard is finalised at the end of 2007. It will give a complete overview of LTE for UMTS and includes chapters on MBMS, HSPA Evolution and WiMAX. Chapter 1 gives an overview to LTE with chapter 2 covering the standardization background and process being. The system architecture evolution (SAE) is presented in Chapter 3 and the basics of air interface modulation choices inChapter 4. Chapter 5 describes 3GPP LTE physical layer solutions and protocolsolution is covered in Chapter 6. The mobility aspects are addressed in Chapter 7 and the packet scheduling in Chapter 8. Chapter 9 illustrates the radio and end-to-end performance while the voice performance is addressed in Chapter 10. Chapter 11 shows the operation of Multimedia Broadcast Multicast System (MBMS) and Chapters 12 and 13 describe other wireless broadband solutions: HSPA evolution in 3GPP Releases 7 and 8, and WiMAX based on IEEE and WiMAX forum definitions
