This volume has a range of select articles on different dimensions of the caste system in India. These articles have been divided into three parts. The first part deals broadly with conceptual and theoretical issues. The second part has empirical accounts of different dimensions of caste and the related daily experiences of the changes and continuities, with most of the articles looking at the patterns of social mobility among individual communities and sections of population.
