As a world religion Christianity has established itself as a dominant featureon the continent of Africa so much so that today no one can doubt that Christianity is truly an African religion alongside African indigenous religions andIslam. Statistics show how Christianity’s centre of gravity has shifted from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere and also to minority groupswithin the North, such as Blacks, Latinos and indigenous American peoples. But Africa is not only a continent with growing and creative Christian communities. It is also the poorest region of the world and one ravaged by AIDS, numerous wars and conflicts. This is the drama of Africa’s fragmentation. What kind of Christianity is lived in such situations of fragmentation, misery, suffering and interminable violent conflicts?
