The main focus of the book will be association models which have essentially revolutionized the field over the last 15 to 20 years. Classical state-of-the-art thermodynamic models will also be presented within a unified framework andin a critical way and from the application point of view. This book will offer a unified presentation of several of the most advanced models which are suitable for many industrial applications focusing on two of them, CPA and PC-SAFT, which are particularly suitable for many complex systems. The first chapterswill be concerned with the industrial requirements for thermodynamics and intermolecular forces and models, respectively. The remainder of the book will bedivided into four parts. The first part will include cubic equations of statewith conventional mixing rules, activity coefficient models and advanced mixing rules for cubic equations of state. The second part will provide information about advanced models and will discuss association models and spectroscopy, the SAFT theory and the CPA equation of state. The third section will outline applications of the advanced models CPA and SAFT. Thermodynamics and other disciplines will be the focus of the last part with chapters on models for electrolytes, thermodynamics and colloid and surface chemistry and environmental applications of thermodynamics. The final chapter will be on the challenges of thermodynamics in the 21st century.
