This book incorporates the use of R subroutines in the analysis of surveys. It is aimed at applied statisticians and sophisticated users of statistics in the health and social sciences. The major thrust of the book is to highlight three areas of interest: calibration estimators, two-phase designs, and fitting of regression models to survey data. Large data sets are employed throughout to illustrate the need for and utility of the R software system. Examples and exercises use national surveys (NHANES, NHIS, CPS, and British Household Survey, among others), medical cohort studies, and artificial samples from county-level data. It is not a book for the faint of heart.
