From Elephants to Mice is a collection of stories about the animals Dr. Mahoney has treated throughout his career as a veterinarian and observed throughouthis life as a compassionate animal lover. He serves as a voice for all the creatures whose tales he shares in this narrative, including: Loki, the South Indian elephant branded as a killer who is captured but resists being broken TheCaribbean Three, Jamaican-born dogs who find their way to America and demonstrate amazing powers of love and devotion Erin and Finnegan, two rhesus monkeyswho struggle to succeed despite being orphaned as infants The Three Wild Mice, a trio of clever females who conspire to outsmart their human host and show him the importance of freedom While each story stands alone, together they provide a compelling argument for recognizing each animal as an individual endowed with certain rights. When even a small fish in a pond can demonstrate what seems to be a sense of humor, how can we overlook the contributions that every animal makes to our world?James Mahoney, a native of Ireland who came to the U.S. in 1972, graduated from veterinary school at Glasgow Veterinary College in Scotland. He holds a masters degree in comparative mammalian reproduction and embryology. A veterinarian for more than forty years, he has traveled around the world to treat all kinds of animals and has grown to understand and appreciate the individuality ofall creatures.
