Sediment Provenance: Influences on Compositional Change from Source to Sink explores how provenance data play a critical role in a number of aspects of sedimentary rocks, including assessing palaeogeographic reconstructions, constraining lateral displacements in orogens, characterizing crust which is no longer exposed, mapping depositional systems, sub-surface correlation, and predicting reservoir quality. The book discusses all of these major challenges and arms geoscientists with an all-in-one reference to sedimentary rocks, from source to sink. In spite of significant technological development and consequent scientific advancement in the last twenty years, there is very little literature, and no special publication, that treats sedimentary rocks from a source to sink perspective. This book provides a critical and comprehensive overview as well as new data-based sediment provenance analyses from Recent to Paleoarchean from several continents. A state-of-the art exposition of sediment provenance analyses, as presented herein, will substantially help to identify key issues, fill gaps in the existing knowledge base, and initiate new research to characterize source rock, infer paleoweathering, paleoclimate, and tectonics, and ultimately, to gain insights into the evolution of continental crust.  Provides the latest data available on various aspects of sedimentary rocks from their source to depositionFeatures case studies throughout that illustrate new data and critical analyses of published data by some of the world's most pre-eminent sedimentologistsIncludes more than 150 illustrations, photos, figures, and diagrams that underscore key concepts INDICE: 1.
