In the UK, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) issued guidelines on Diabetes in pregnancy: management of diabetes and its complications from pre-conception to the postnatal period in November 2007. It is,therefore, timely for a new book to provide a practical guide for the MDT (physician, obstetrician, specialist nurse) involved in the care of pregnant patients with diabetes with the NICE guidelines incorporated. This book will be aimed at the MDT involved in the care of pregnant women with diabetes. The contents place particular emphasis on diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and follow-up, and the book will provide both a practical, easily read manual of the key issues in diabetic pregnancy while in addition pointing to current research and areas needing further study. Where possible, each chapter will include an illustrative case history and relevant tables/pictures. The text will be supplemented by key practice points and summary boxes. Each chapter will contain a series of references graded in order of importanceDavid McCance, Physician, Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, Northern IrelandMichael Maresh, Obstetrician, St Marys Hospital, Manchester, UKDavid Sacks, Obstetrician, Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Bellflower, California, USA
