The performance of a product, a system or a service is usually judged in terms of dependability, which can be defined as an aggregate of one or more of theattributes of survivability (such as quality, reliability, and maintainability etc.) and safety, not overlooking the cost of achieving these attributes. These attributes are strongly influenced by the design, raw materials, fabrication, techniques and manufacturing processes employed, their control and usage. These attributes are interrelated and reflect the level or grade of the product so designed and utilized, which is expressed through dependability. As of now, dependability and cost effectiveness are primarily seen as instruments for conducting the international trade in the free market environment and thereby deciding the economic prosperity of a nation. Considers all aspects of performability engineering, providing a holistic view of the entire life cycle of theproduct, including the associated cost of environmental preservation, while maximizing performance INDICE: From the contents Performability Engineering: An Essential Conceptin 21st Century.
