Wetland ecosystems

For over twenty years, Bill Mitsch's ‘Wetlands’ has served as a foundational text for the emergent field of wetland science. As the field became more established the amount of information covering the topic grew exponentially, to thepoint where the Third Edition of Wetlands had grown to over 900 pages. This become became unwieldy for a single semester course, and the range of coverage began to widen to the point where it was becoming encyclopedic and was losing its focus on wetland science and management. This new book is intended to repurpose several chapters culled from the Third edition of Wetlands--those focused on the various wetland ecosystems. These chapters will be book ended with new chapters providing a basic introduction to ecosystems, wetland ecosystems, and systems ecology and modeling. The new book is intended to serve as a supplemental text for advanced courses covering various wetland ecosystems and management techniques in depth, as well as introductory ecology courses which focuson wetlands as a sample ecosystem.
