Readings in Indian Sociology, a multi-volume series, is a collection of rare essays on Indian Sociology written by various experts and scholars which were published over the years in Indian Sociological Society’s (ISS) official journal, the Sociological Bulletin. The journal is the oldest sociology journal in India, and has been published regularly since 1952. The various issues of this journal are a treasure trove of the most profound and authentic sociological writings and research. The series brings to fore such writings/essays to the notice of the sociological community in India and elsewhere. The series, which also marks completion of 60 years of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS), is the third by the ISS. Their earlier series were: Studies in Indian Sociology, a 7-volume set published in 2012, and Themes in Indian Sociology, a 7–volume series published during 2001–05.  The present series focuses on themes that have so far been untouched in the previous two series, such as: Towards Sociology of Dalits; Sociological Probings in Rural Society; Sociology of Childhood and Youth; Sociology of Health; Contributions to Sociological Theory; Sociology of Science and Technology in India; Sociology of Environment; Political Sociology of India; Culture and Society and Pioneers of Sociology in India. It can hardly be overemphasised that all the volumes of the series Readings in Indian Sociology, as they pertain to the most important aspects of society and sociology in India, will be of immense importance and relevance to students, teachers and researchers both of sociology and other social sciences. It is also hoped that these volumes will be received well by the overseas scholars interested in the study of Indian society. The volumes in this set include: Volume One: Towards Sociology of Dalits Volume edited by Paramjit S Judge Volume Two: Sociological Probings in Rural Society Volume edited by K L Sharma Volume Three: Sociology of Childhood and Youth Volume edited by Bula Bhadra Volume Four: Sociology of Health Volume edited by Madhu Nagla Volume Five: Contributions to Sociological Theory Volume edited by Vinay Kumar Srivastava Volume Six: Sociology of Science and Technology in India Volume edited by Binay Kumar Pattnaik Volume Seven: Sociology of Environment Volume edited by Sukant K Chaudhury Volume Eight: Political Sociology of India Volume edited by Anand Kumar Volume Nine: Culture and Society Volume edited by Susan Visvanathan Volume Ten: Pioneers of Sociology in India Volume edited by Ishwar Modi INDICE: VOLUME I: TOWARDS SOCIOLOGY OF DALITSSeries NoteForeword - Prakash N PimpleyPrefaceIntroduction - Paramjit S JudgeI: STATE OF DALIT STUDIES IN SOCIOLOGYSituating Dalits in Indian Sociology - Vivek KumarScheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and the Nation - T K OommenII: CASTE, UNTOUCHABILITY AND EXCLUSIONUntouchability as a Social Problem: Theory and Research - R D LamberUntouchability: A Myth or Reality: A Study of Interaction between Scheduled Castes and Brahmins in a Western U.
