The availability of new high resolution satellite data brings with it the need for new image analysis methods. The use of object features such as scale, compactness, orientation and texture, in addition to spectral characteristics, extends the possibilities of remote sensing satellite image analysis considerably. This book describes recent progress in object-based image interpretation, and also presents many new results in its application to verification of nuclear non-proliferation. A comprehensive workflow and newly developed algorithms for object-based high resolution image (pre-) processing, feature extraction, change detection, classification and interpretation are developed, applied andevaluated. The entire analysis chain is demonstrated with high resolution imagery acquired over Iranian nuclear facilities. New object-based methodology breaking with the pixel paradigm. New methodologies for pre-processing, feature analysis, classification and change detection. Satellite images of Iranian nuclear facilities INDICE: 1. Introduction. Part I. Basic principles. 2. Satellite imagery and methods of remote sensing. 3. eCognition image analysis software. 4. Change detection. Part II. Object-based analysis & change detection. 5. SEaTH - A newtool for feature analysis. 6. Preprocessing of very-high-resolution RS data. 7. Object-based analysis of Iranian nuclear facilities. 8. Combined change detection at NFRPC Esfahan. 9. Summary & conclusions. A. SEaTH-Analysis of NFRPC Esfahan. B. Analysis from Arak, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and Natanz.
