This volume on metalloproteomics will reflect various aspects of this branch of protein science. It starts with a theoretical introduction on cation binding. Afterwards, different methods used for the investigation of the binding of different cations to proteins are discussed. The following chapters deal with detailed characteristics of Ca-binding proteins, followed by a similar descriptions of Mg, Zn, Fe, Co, Cu, Wo, Mn, Na, and K-binding proteins. The final chapter deals with the interaction of different cations with nucleic acids. Woventhroughout are principles relating to proteomics and examples of medical relevance.
