A good number of misconceptions circulate on the effects of non-ionizing radiations on our health. They lead to an excessive simplification of the issue, to detrimental associations of ideas or to oriented data analysis. Health effects may be exaggerated, or on the contrary minimized. The authors of this work (medical doctors, engineers and researchers) endeavoured to supply validated and easily understandable scientific information about the electromagnetic fields and their biological and sanitary effects. After a general reminder on the physics of the waves and a presentation of non-ionizing radiations, the authorsreview the main emission sources encountered in our daily environment. They summarize simply, but the most faithfully possible, the current knowledge on their biological effects. The safety limits recommended by the international organizations are presented for the different frequency ranges. This book is designed for doctors, teachers, scientists, students, policy makers and any citizenwishing to have a clear understanding of the health effects of electromagnetic fields. Conceived as book with drawers everyone will dive in it according tohis curiosity and to its level of knowledge. It is neither an exhaustive inventory of all the studies made to date, nor a reduced state of the art lying onsome chosen studies. The objective is not either to present all the sources of non-ionizing radiations. The interested reader will be able, if he wishes to, to broaden his knowledge consulting the selected bibliography presented by the authors at the end of each chapter.
