This book provides a comprehensive overview of the recently established JPEG2000 standard for image compression, presenting information on all the current parts of the standard, as well as the main application domains. Edited by experts in the field of image compression and in particular the JPEG standard, it includes contributions from specialists who have worked on the development of JPEG2000 both in industry and in academia. It is divided into two parts, firstly looking at the JPEG2000 standard, setting out the core coding system, extensions to the standard, reference software, and JPEG2000 in conjunction with security (JPSEC), interactive protocol (JPIP), encoding of volumetric datasets (JD3D) and wireless technology (JPWL). The second part of the text focuses on the successful deployment of JPEG2000 in application domains such as digital cinema, video surveillance, defence imaging, medical imaging and 3D imaging. Finally current standardization efforts such as Advanced Image Coding (AIC) are discussed.
