Leading for learning: how to transform schools into learning organizations

This book will provide educators with the framework, tools, and processes to transform their schools from bureaucracies into learning organizations. To make this transition, educators must understand and move beyond some of the deeply ingrained and negative conceptions of schooling that guide so much of their practice. They must take stock of how they and their organizations have structured systems of power/authority, evaluation, and boundaries, and figure out how to restructure systems in ways that encourage sustaining innovation. Schlechtys most popular book, Working on the Work, offered a practical framework for improving the student engagement in school by improving the quality of work provided for them. It was the practical follow-up Shaking Up the Schoolhouse andInventing Better Schools. In a similar fashion, this new book will be a practical follow-up to Creating Great Schools. But, this time the focus will be on the school as an organization. Schlechty reports very enthusiastic feedback from his constituents on the frameworks and strategies he will be presenting in this book. This is the first time Schlechty has ever declared one of his projects a sure winner at this stage in the game.
