LTE, the UMTS long term evolution: from theory to practice

This book will not only provide an accessible and comprehensible description of the first release and (beyond) of the new LTE standard, but importantly it will also provide the fundamental theoretical basis, which is essential to thedevelopment of a deep understanding of the concepts used in LTE. By developing the reader's understanding of the theoretical limits and how the theory has been applied to the practical standard, the book will provide the foundation necessary for engineers to focus their implementation efforts on the most critical aspects, and for researchers to identify the most fruitful areas for further development and future evolution. The book will provide a good balance between theory and practice. Particular effort will be devoted to explaining the theoretical concepts in an intuitive and comprehensive way, while retaining scientific rigour. Importantly, the goal of the book is not to make a collection of 3GPP contributions or to regurgitate specification documents, but rather tolink their contents in a coherent and lucid explanation, highlighting the implications for practical systems and comparing / contrasting with the now well-known W-CDMA/HSPA standards.
