Paul Sr. knows what it takes to run a successful business. Hes been doing it with his family for over 30 years, beginning in the 1970s at the familys firstbusiness in the steel industry, Orange County Ironworks, and now at his own custom motorcycle company, Orange County Choppers. Since 1999, Paul Sr. has grown his OCC enterprise to a 20-employee company that produces 150 bikes a year. What makes the Teutul family so fascinating is their intensely passionate, creative, and honest approach to business. Their unwavering commitment to achieving the best comes from a resilient family work ethic. Although the family business is thriving in a niche industry, the rules that the company follows are universally valid, and can be applied to any business of any size in any industry. Included in the book are such lessons as: Work Hard, and Then Work Harder- This might seem like a simple concept, but its often under-rated and is essential to the success of a business. Nobody in the Teutul family was given special treatment at Orange County Ironworks, and no one started anywhere in the family business except at the very bottom, and worked their way up. Embrace Creativity- The employees at OCC work in an industry that lets their imaginationstake control on their projects, but the overall idea is to turn the ideas that are coming from your head in execution in your business Establish Roles and Support One Another- Paul Sr. and Paulie at OCC manage to mesh their opposite Old School and New School styles with building bikes and working with their colleagues. Recognizing strengths and weaknesses in a company and then supporting each other is vital to establishing smooth and streamlined processes at work. Encourage Conflict- Many people can relate to the occasional father/son argument dynamic that the Teutuls have on their show. They feel strongly that important issues arent raised and problems arent solved unless there is some degree of conflict within an organization.Paul Teutul Sr. (Montgomery, NY) is the founder of Orange County Choppers, one of the worlds premier builders of custom motorcycles. In the 1970s, Paul Sr.ran a family-owned steel fabrication shop, Orange County Ironworks, now solely owned and managed by his son, Daniel. In the 1990s, Paul Sr. began building custom bikes on the side as a hobby and extension of their steel business. He left Ironworks in 1999 to found and run Orange County Choppers, which has beenfeatured on the hit TLC show American Chopper since September 2002. Paul Sr. grew up in Yonkers, NY, and is a Vietnam War veteran.
