This book focuses on skin of color-related disorders with an emphasis on both the basic science and clinical aspects of different ethnic groups and disorders, respectively. Written for residents, trainees, and practicing clinicians, this book includes dozens of high-quality color photographs and begins with an overview of the anthropology of skin colors and impact of skin disease on ethnic groups. It then transitions into chapters involving the basic science of skin structure and function of those with more darkly pigmented skin tones.
Clinical aspects of each skin disease are discussed, focusing on acne/rosacea, disorders of hyper- and hypopigmentation, inflammatory disorders, scarring, and skin cancer. The next few sections focus on hair disorders, with an anthropological approach, as well as basic science and clinical aspects. Finally, Dermatoanthropology of Ethnic Skin and Hair discusses both the approach and treatment of cosmetics.
