Normative Power Europe: empirical and theoretical perspectives

The notion of Normative Power Europe (NPE) is that the EU is an 'ideational' actor characterised by common principles and acting to diffuse norms within international relations. Contributors assess the impact of NPE and offer new perspectives for the future exploration of one of the most widely used ideas in the study of the EU in the last decade. RICHARD G. WHITMAN is Professor of Politics, Department of European Studies and Modern Languages, University of Bath, UK, and Associate Fellow at Chatham House. He has published widely on the external relations, foreign, security and defence policies of the EU. His most recent publication is 'The European Neighbourhood Policy in Perspective: Context, Implementation and Impact' (Palgrave, 2010), co-edited with Stefan Wolff.
