The objective of this book is to provide a good theoretical foundation and toapply some of these theories to advanced practical systems in Wireless Broadband Networks from the physical to the network layers in the OSI/ISO model. Practical applications of these systems will also be presented. The approach taken by this book is to first present and discuss the underlying theories and to then apply the theories to practical applications. This feature sets this bookapart from the competition. Enabling technologies will be clearly explained with illustrations to provide the reader with the necessary knowledge to betterunderstand the rationale for the design of advanced practical systems that are presented in detail in the book. The book is divided into two parts: Part I (Enabling Technologies for Wireless Broadband Networks) provides the underlying theories for researchers, students and computer scientists, while Part II (Systems of Wireless Broadband Networks) establishes the practical systems and targets electrical engineers and technical managers. This book is for those wholike to explore how theories can be applied in real practical systems. Definitions: ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 157 countries,on the basis of one member per country, with a Central Secretariat in Geneva,Switzerland, that coordinates the system. ISO is a non-governmental organization: its members are not, as is the case in the United Nations system, delegations of national governments. ISO is able to act as a bridging organization inwhich a consensus can be reached on solutions that meet both the requirementsof business and the broader needs of society, such as the needs of stakeholder groups like consumers and users. The Open Systems Interconnection Basic Reference Model (OSI Reference Model) is a layered abstract description for communications and computer network protocol design, developed as part of the Open System Interconnection.
