This book provides practical real frequency techniques (RFT) for designing power transfer or matching networks, which are essential for optimal power delivery in wideband communication systems. It is divided into two parts, firstly covering existing power transfer problems at wideband frequencies and the difficulties involved with the design of efficient networks, as well as setting outclassical filter and analytic theories of single and double matching. The author also describes the basic properties of power transfer networks and presents the fundamentals of computer-aided design techniques for matching networks and amplifiers employing lumped circuit elements (capacitors, inductors and transformers). The second part of the book covers practical design procedures fornetworks at wideband frequencies, including designs with commensurate transmission lines, and with mixed lumped and distributed elements. Yarman also describes model based design procedures. For each design, up-to-date examples are given, as well as detailed roadmaps and algorithms to make the material accessible to the reader. There is a supplementary website containing MatLab design programs for the real frequency line segment technique, direct computational techniques, the parametric approach the linear interpolation techniques to modelthe given data. Power Point lecture slides clearly re-cap the design techniques presented in the text.Binboga Siddik Yarman, Tokyo Institute of Technology Professor Binboga SiddikYarman is currently on a sabbatical in the Department of Physical Electronics, at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. His full-time position is with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, at the College of Engineering, Istanbul University. Professor Yarman is very experienced in the field of communication networks, being one of the first engineers to establish computer-aided design (CAD) tools for constructing practical broadband matchingnetworks and multistage microwave amplifiers for optimized communication systems. In doing this, he paved the way for the generation of CAD algorithms to construct practical circuits in the field of communications engineering, including commercial and military communication sub-systems such as antenna matchingnetworks, and multistage microwave amplifiers for mobile and fixed communication systems. He has published a number of book chapters and journal papers on the design of microwave amplifiers, modeling techniques and other design issues concerning power transfer networks, including a section on Broadband Networks for the Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Vol II, 1999). He has also lectured to both students, and practising engineers on these topics for the last 25 years, in Europe, the USA and Japan.
